About The Team

Melody Tan is an IEEE-USA / AAAS Congressional Science & Engineering Fellow working on health policy in the U.S. Senate. She previously earned her PhD in Bioengineering from Rice University, where she conducted research to improve oral cancer detection. Melody was actively involved with voter outreach and grassroots campaigns in Texas for several years, and is passionate about increasing engagement between scientists and policymakers. She invites you to join her in working towards diverse representation at all levels of government.

Janay Eyo is a legislative aide at the US House of Representatives, where she builds on her background in education and financial services policy. Janay knows the power of sharing information and how it can lead to economic empowerment, which is how she became involved with serving as a volunteer tax preparer and promoting financial literacy in marginalized communities. As a current CPA candidate, Janay is committed to strengthening the pipeline for aspiring young accountants through her work with the National Association of Black Accountants. Most recently, Janay collaborated with a small village in Liberia, West Africa, to create the first Indigenous-owned water sachet production factory in its country. A lifelong Virginian, Janay holds a BA in Economics and a BA in History from Virginia Tech.

Medora Jones is a Legislative Correspondent for the Office of Chairman John Yarmuth (KY-3). She has experience both on the campaign trail as a former call time manager for Representative Max Rose and in the education policy space from her internships with the U.S. Department of Education and the Learning Policy Institute. Medora grew up in Frankfort, Kentucky and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and French from Bard College. When she’s not working, Medora enjoys playing soccer, watching prestige tv like 90 Day Fiancé, and spending time with her cat, Merlin.

The Women & Politics Institute provides practical and academic training to women that encourages them to become involved in the political process and facilitates research by faculty and students that enhances our understanding of the challenges and opportunities women face in the political arena.

Only with your help can we offer more courses, enroll more students, train more young women to run for office, conduct more research, convene more special events, and ensure that women have a seat at all of the tables where the most important decisions are made.

Together, we will change the face of politics!
