I am fundraising for my trip this summer to NYE. Youth nationwide will attend the event, during which we will hear key note speakers, attend workshops, & complete service projects.

I am a junior at Del Mar High school & I am part of the soccer and volleyball team, both of which I will be captains for next year. In addition to that, I am president of Key Club, the community-service-focused club of my school. I am also an active member in the First Congregational Church’s youth group and I am extremely excited to attend the National Youth Event this summer with my youth group! "NYE is a spirited quadrennial event centered on faith, leadership, service and social justice first inaugurated in 1980. It is celebrated as the largest denominational gathering for the United Church of Christ." During the event, I will be able to attend different workshops, which will allow me to experience different cultures & deepen my faith. In addition, there will be 4 keynote speakers: Trisha Prabhu, Aidan Thomas Hornaday, Hadiqa Bashir, and Jonathan Pitre. These speakers are inspiring youths that I am excited to listen to and learn from. Lastly, a few days of the event will consist of working on service projects, another part of the trip I can’t wait for. I decided to go on this trip due to my amazing experience from my last service trip to Taylorsville, North Carolina. There, we joined Youthworks, a Christian organization focused on service. We worked with the community’s children’s club, Habit for Humanity, & multiple nursing homes. I created so many friendships on the trip, developed new skills, & experienced a whole new culture, making it a trip I will never forget.
In a world filled with so much pain and injustice, having faith can seem like an impossible task. Yet, it is often people of faith who make the biggest impact by taking action for those in need.
This summer, the United Church of Christ's National Youth Event will challenge youth from around the country to come and learn what it means to BELIEVE. To believe in a God that loves all. To believe in the possibilities of a better world. To believe in their own ability to make a difference in the community around them.
As we prepare for a journey to Orlando, FL to meet other youth, to hear intelligent and heartfelt speakers, to worship, and to learn about putting faith into action, we are working to make this trip accessible to all. We believe that finances should never be an obstacle to experience and so we are asking for your help and support.
