When you become a bat mitzvah, you must complete a mitzvah project, or a good deed. For my mitzvah project, I am raising money for a charity that means a lot to me called Good Sports.

The mission of Good Sports is to give all kids the lifelong benefit of sports and physical activity by providing new equipment, apparel and footwear to those most in need. Only 34% of kids ages 6-12 from homes with incomes of $25,000 or less play team sports. By teaming up with corporations, foundations and equipment partners, Good Sports has given the gift of sports to more than 8 million kids in need across the U.S.

With COVID-19 changing sports as we know it, at least for the short term, kids need us now more than ever. Children from high-poverty communities who often rely on gym in school, and after-school sports programs for physical activity and social interaction are now finding themselves without something that was once such an important part of their lives.

I am very fortunate to be able to buy equipment and sports gear when I need to, and play team sports if I want to. I decided to raise money to support these children, so they can enjoy what they love again.
