Rebuilding Begins!
Sancha Maya Tamang, who lost her husband 7 years ago also lost her home and watermill to the devastating earthquake of April 25th, 2015. Her only source of income was what she earned from the watermill which is no more running. Her only son who was working as a bus conducter for years had manage to get a driving licence recently and she was hopeful that her son will help her raise his small sister, but unfortunately he had an accident and currently he is under policy custody in charges of accidental homicide.
When we heard about the news of need of shelter and food in Godawari, we thought - 'Godawari has access to every sort of resources - someone must be exaggerating the condition there' but when we reached there to verify the information we were taken aback by what we saw. After walking for 40 minutes uphill, you will reach Sancha Maya's home (picture 4) and when we reached we saw that her home is down to the ground. After hearing her story we instantly decided to help her in anyways we can.
We will help her with rebuilding her home and restoring her watermill so that she will have a source of income to support her family.
Today our team delivered 3 bundles of Jasta Pata, 1 sack of Cement and Adequate Sand and Nails for reconstruction. We have also talked with the local blacksmith to repair her watermill. We will pay for the labors for reconstruction and restoring of her watermill.
This is a beginning.

Update #21

Sikharambotey VDC, Kavrepalanchwok!!
Out of three teams that left Kathmandu today to distribute relief materials, only Team from Kavre got back in time after successfully conducting the distribution camp.
Sikharambote VDC in Kavre was in dearth of food commodities and sanitary supplies. A team of four members were tasked with the responsibility of surveying that area; the report provided showed that no relief supplies had yet reached that particular VDC. YTS conveyed this data to CAN-USA and by their virtue, we managed to get the required supplies for 152 families. The focal contact person for that VDC was Mr. Kumar Lama, a native of Kavre. Having lost his house to the quake, he narrated the story of his village in the 68 KM ride from Kathmandu till Sikharambote. He was a great asset to our team of six volunteers as he efficiently helped us distribute sustenance and sanitary supplies to each household. Food commodities were provided keeping in mind the significance of balanced diet to withstand the physical and mental stress the affected people are going through. Carbohydrates, proteins and other nutrients in the form of rice, lentils, beaten rice, soya nuggets, salt, sugar and oil was delivered to each household. Energy supplements such as Oral Rehydration Salts and Glucose were liberally distributed keeping in mind the importance of maintaining fluid balance for a healthy lifestyle.
We felt a strong sense of community-hood in Sikharambote- a culture of sharing and caring in its truest sense. We had 80 tents in total which was far less than the number of households requiring it; our apprehensions were removed by the locals when the consensus held that two families would share one tent. The residents were extremely cooperative and enthusiastically participated in our interactive-awareness program regarding basic hygiene and sanitation. Phenyl, water-purifier tablets, masks and garbage bags were distributed to them after teaching them the ways they can use it.
As we left for Kathmandu, all of us were adorned with Khadas and a sense of fulfillment that could only be achieved by helping the needy.
We express our sincere gratitude to CAN-USA for funding our relief distribution program.

Update #4

In times of greatest grief and trouble when we are mostly concerned about surviving and reconstructing our lives, we tend to neglect one of the most precious part of us - Our Children! These are the pictures from temporary camps of Chyamasingh where our Mentor Ms. Meenakshi Dahal spent the day playing with the Children, making them feel secure and happy smile emoticon
We will be distributing creative playing toys and books in our camps area from tomorrow. If these Children are left unattended then it might make a negative impact in their development. They are the future.
