Alexandra's Support Team

About The Team

Mirror Memoirs Co-Directors and Leadership Council members are raising funds to support Alexandra to have time to recover.

More Info

Alexandra Magallon is an Afro-Latinx, intersex, trans feminine person. Alexandra has been an advocate for the Los Angeles trans, non-binary, and intersex communities for years, and is a Mirror Memoirs Core Member.

On December 30, 2020, Alexandra was in a serious car accident in Hollywood during which her car was totaled. When bystanders initially responded, they clocked her as transgender. In the aftermath, she was drugged, beaten twice, raped, ignored or jeered by several other bystanders when asking for help, and ultimately was left half-naked and unconscious in public until someone called an ambulance. Her assailants even stole her emotional support dog, who was with her in the car.

That night and in the subsequent week, Alexandra experienced violent, transphobic, classist and racist treatment from bystanders, hospital emergency department staff, and law enforcement when seeking emergency assistance.

The violent attacks, along with the deeply dehumanizing experience in seeking medical care, impacted Alexandra's mental health to the point of hopelessness and Alexandra was voluntarily hospitalized in a mental health facility.

Since then, Alexandra, who works full-time at a transgender-led direct service nonprofit, has been diagnosed with Complex PTSD by her therapist and psychiatrist. Her job cannot accommodate her to work from home, so she must go out on medical/disability leave until her PTSD is less acute and she is able to return to work. However, she recently learned someone filed a fradulent EDD claim in her name, which will take a few months to clear up. In the meantime, she is on forced and unpaid leave from her job, with no blood family support system.

We believe that Alexandra deserves to have time to rest and heal without worrying if her needs will be met. We are reaching out to community to help Alexandra cover her basic survival needs (food, rent, utilities, medical care, and Lyft/Uber rides), as well as access to healing and care (therapy, healing practices, medication). Your donations will make this possible for Alexandra.

We are seeking one-time and/or monthly donations to support Alexandra for the next six months. Alexandra needs at least $3,000 a month to meet her basic needs (especially given her rent alone is $1,400/month).

We will meet our goal if:

  • 300 people pledge $10/month, or

  • 150 people pledge $20/month, or

  • 100 people pledge $30/month, or

  • 60 people pledge $50/month, or

  • 30 people pledge $100/month

You can also make a one-time gift in any amount - no gift is too small!

2020 reminded us that we come from legacies of mutual aid in our communities, and that collective care keeps us alive. Please donate what you can, and share this fundraiser with your networks. Let's support Alexandra in not only surviving, but truly beginning to heal.

With love and gratitude,

Alexandra's Support Team
