This past Saturday, Laguna Road's 6th graders competed at the Santa Ana Unified Warm Up Tournament and contributed to bringing home the first place sweepstakes award for Laguna/Parks/Sunset! We are so proud of our students for their hard work and preparation as well as their team spirit and sportsmanship! Way to go, Roadrunners! Beep, beep!
Laguna Road Speech Team consists of 45 students in 4th, 5th, and 6th grade who meet twice weekly to practice their speech skills under the leadership and direction of Mrs. Frutchey and Mrs. Curley. We are proud to be an award-winning team with three 1st place sweepstakes awards from the Fullerton School District and a 1st place sweepstakes award from the Michael Leigh Southern California Elementary Competition. In addition to putting forth our best efforts in every event, we are committed to modeling great sportsmanship, kindness, respect, humility and teamwork.
Our Rotary Jogathon began in 2010 in cooperation with our local school district as a way for us to help students raise funds for their youth clubs while at the same time having a portion of the funds raised go towards helping youth in need in our community and in the world. 75% of the funds go to the school clubs from what they raise and 25% of what they raise goes to our Non-Profit 501c(3) Foundation to assist youth in need.
This is a very fun event for our youth and the community each year. Through our non profit Fullerton Rotary Foundation we use these funds to assist youth with Literacy, homelessness, foster youth, and other Title ! school needs. We are an all volunteer organization so all funds go towards assisting youth and not staff.
Additionally Rotary does assist in fighting global youth oriented diseases, and a portion of these funds from our Non-Profit Foundation are allocated to matching global grants that help fight and eradicate such disease.
