About This Campaign
The closure of the Steung Meanchey dumpsite in 2009 left hundreds of families without homes and without their source of income-as garbage pickers-in Phnom Penh, Cambodia's capital. Many now live in shacks or other substandard housing and all struggle to make a living. Our Big Build Team Members will work at Smile Village/Phum Kdey Nhor Nhem helping to build affordable, stable rental homes for these families. Smile Village is within cycling distance to the city center, providing easy access to schools, jobs and other opportunities. The Mekong Big Build will launch the construction of 330 homes in Smile Village. Families at Smile Village will also have access to vocational training, education and healthcare; with no threat of eviction, which many routinely face.
