Help an Iranian refugee family get Canadian citizenship

Help an Iranian refugee family get Canadian citizenship

From Claudia Leung

I am raising funds for my friend Saied, Monireh, and their 3 children to get their long awaited Canadian citizenship. All donations will go towards their Canadian citizenship application and related fees.

Update #1

A huge thank you to all of you amazing donors! When we first told Saeid and Monireh (a few weeks ago) that we had raised enough to begin the family's citizenship applications, they told us they literally cried with joy. We're now happy to update that the (extensive) applications are complete and were mailed on Saturday. When Dena messaged Saeid with the tracking number so he could track the package on its way to the appropriate government office, he wrote back to say that he and his family's citizenship, as well as Canadian passports, "would change our lives after many years of stress and with no home country." And he said again how grateful he is to each of you for your support, even though most of you have never met him or his family. Though it will still be several months before the applications are fully processed and the family can take their citizenship tests and attend the oath ceremony, Saeid also said that the knowledge that they're one step closer to visiting family from whom they've been separated for over 10 years has been a huge boost to their mental health in the midst of other challenges they are still facing. Your generosity has renewed this family's hope (and ours!) and again, as Saeid said, has truly changed their lives.

More Info

Saeid arrived in Canada as a refugee with his wife Monireh and their son in 2017.  Even though they have gone through much difficulty as a newcomer here, including Saied's cancer diagnosis which he is still battling, they have been very positive and resilient, making Vancouver their home, trying hard to integrate, and raising their now 3 children in Vancouver.  Saied is a passionate musician and often gifts other churches and communities, including my church Tapestry Mundy Park, with his Persian music.

Recently his family overseas has been battling numerous medical and financial obstacles due to COVID.  You might have read in the news how early COVID hit Iran (many weeks before it spread in Canada) and overwhelmed the healthcare system, to the point where Saeid's family needed to buy their own oxygen and pay for private nurses to go to their home, because there was no room for them at the hospitals.  He has had to send all their family's savings overseas to help, including the savings originally set aside for their Canadian citizenship application.  For this reason I would love to raise that money for him so he and his family can apply for and get their Canadian citizenship as soon as possible, as they originally planned.  I know how much they have appreciated Canada and set roots here, and how much they would love to finally become Canadian citizens.
