Primate & Pinniped Marathon Madness!

Primate & Pinniped Marathon Madness!

From Matt Barnes

In our infinite wisdom we have decided to run a sweaty heat stroke inducing marathon in the Indonesian forest for two causes close to our hearts, the Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation and the Yorkshire Seal Group

So the last and only time I ran a marathon was 11 years ago and it was in 10 degrees in Scotland and Niamh has never run one! In our infinite wisdom we thought why not run a marathon out here in Borneo to raise vital funds for our two loves orangutans and seals. The ever so slight hurdle is that the temperature here averages 30 to 35 degrees with a real feel temperature near 40 and a humidity level of 75-90% leaving you in sweaty devastation after even a minor jog!

Is it worth it? Well we hope so as the first recipient the Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation both rescues, rehabilitates and releases orangutans who have suffered horrendously at the hands of humans ranging from mothers being shot or machete'd through to being used in brothels, as exotic pets or exploited in circuses. Funds raised will support equipment purchases for the nursery, enrichment, maintenance and pre release islands teams.

The second recipient the Yorkshire Seal Group see's volunteer stewards protect seals, conduct research, work with stakeholders to improve access and interpretation and educate visitors though face to face engagement and curriculum linked education outreach in schools. Funds raised will contribute to new laptops for the education officer, data officer and management teams.

We both hugely appreciate your support and thank you on behalf on the voiceless and vulnerable orangutans of Borneo and seals of Yorkshire!
