I’m trying to raise money for the People in Pain Network! The People in Pain Network is the only Canadian not-for-profit peer-led pain management group that supports people who suffer from chronic pain. Chronic pain is a very serious issue and it’s not always easy for people to speak up and seek help. The hardest part is the first step and this group provide proper guidance and resources as well as the chance to speak to others who are going through the same thing.

This group is dear to me because my mum has been dealing with severe pain since 1998. Having dealt with an aneurysm in 1998 and then reoccurring ulcers on her legs since then, she has been through a lot. It’s been a lot of one step forward and two steps back for her, dealing with the pain that these types of things bring. She, like so many others, felt very alone and instead of feeling human felt more like a number.

My mum, Anne, has always been the most supportive person and has always pushed us to follow our passions. She raised us to work for what we want and be extremely grateful for all that we have. She has always been someone who likes to stay busy and involved in the things she’s passionate about. She is extremely passionate about this group because it allows her to connect with the community and to help others, something that she loves. Since she’s been involved with The People in Pain Network, there has been a significant change in both her physical and mental health. She’s near the end of her road to recovery and has been given the tools she needs to maintain that health. I am extremely proud of her.

I decided that I would be running the BMO Half Marathon on May 1st, 2016 and want to do more than just run it. If she can push through for 18 years, then I can run for a few hours in support. Ultimately, I want to give back to the group who has helped my mum and spread awareness about this issue.

Chronic pain is unnecessary and you have the right to a great quality of life.

All donations will given to the group and any donation is welcome! A little bit goes a long way! People in Pain presently serves in both British Columbia and Alberta but the goal is to expand across Canada.
