Event Details:

Not a reader? It's all good. Here's a video that goes over everything :)

The Tokyo Summer Games may have been postponed this year, but that doesn't mean we can't still celebrate our own athletic achievements this season. Whether you decide to enter your dog into the games, just want them to learn a new skill, or you would rather take the challenge to burn some calories yourself, all funds raised will go toward rescuing companion animals in need.

For more info on the lifesaving work of One Tail at a Time - PDX click here

Event period: 8/3/20 - 9/31-20

All participants that fundraise a minimum of $50 on their personal fundraising page will receive a "2020 DoggO-lympic Games" shirt.

How to join the action:

For Dogs:

OPTION 1~

1) Choose a sport from the following categories and film them performing it as best (or hilariously) as they can:

• Jumps (long jump, high jump)

• Shot-put and Discus (ball and frisbee)

• Water Sports (diving, sailing, surfing, kayaking..etc)

• Gymnastics (trick/skill routines)

• Wrestling/Team Sports (up to interpretation)

2) Submit your video by email to [email protected] with the subject line "2020 Games" and the sport/category in which they are participating.

Note: Videos must be submitted by August 27th. Finalists will be announced and the public will then vote on our 1st, 2nd and 3rd place video submissions. Winners will be announced and the those that reach the podium (the top 3 finishers) in each category will win their very own heavy duty frisbee in addition to their shirt.

The fine print: To be eligible, you must fundraise a minimum of $10 on your personal fundraising page per video submission. One entry per dog per sport allowed. Videos should be no longer than 30 seconds.

OPTION 2~

For those that do not wish to submit a video, you can still participate by pledging to have your dog learn a new skill. Create your personal fundraising page, pick a skill you would like them to learn, and ask supporters to pledge a donation.

For example: “Lucy is pledging to learn how to fetch! Will you pledge $10 to motivate her?”

For Humans:

This event is not just for our four-legged friends. Create your personal fundraising page, choose a goal of your own (running, swimming, biking, pushups...etc.) then ask supporters to pledge a donation for each mile, minute or reps of that activity that you do for the entire event period.

For example: “I’m pledging to run 20 miles in 20 days, will you pledge $1 for every mile that I run?”

FAQ:

Ok, I want to participate... now what?

  • Great question! Now that you have committed to helping us save more companion animals, the next step is to create your personal fundraising page here
  • Personalize it by uploading pictures and/or writing a short blurb about why animal rescue is important to you. This will help to show others why our cause is important to you, and will also help in your fundraising efforts so that you can reach the $50 minimum to receive your shirt.

What should I write on my fundraising page?

  • If you don't know what to write, that's ok, feel free to copy/paste the following:
  • "I am participating in the 2020 DoggO-lympic Games to raise money for One Tail at a Time - PDX, an all-breed, no-kill, foster-based companion animal rescue based in Portland, Oregon. By donating any amount to my page, you'll not only help me reach my goal, but you'll also be helping to further their mission to improve the lives of companion animals by providing humane, individualized care and a chance to know the comforts of a loving home through advocacy, education, and support of those in need. Thank you for your support!"
  • This is also a great place to tell your donors whether you will be entering your dog into the games, pledging that they will learn a new skill, or if you yourself are committing to run a certain number of miles...etc. If you'd like, you can also keep your supporters informed on your progress by posting pictures and updates throughout the games.

How do I take payments to reach my fundraising goal?

  • Your personal page is automatically synched with Stripe to take credit/debit card payments. This is the easiest way to take payments because donations will go straight to OTAT-PDX

What if someone wants to write a check or pay in cash?

  • Checks should be written out to "OTAT-PDX". Along with cash donations, they can be mailed to One Tail at a Time, P.O. Box 11044 Portland, OR 97211 attn: DoggO-lympic Games. Please also note the name of the participant the funds should be attributed to so it will count towards your goal.

I do not wish to participate in the games, but can I still donate to your organization?

  • Absolutely! You can make a general donation on this campaign page, or to ensure that no processing fees are taken out and a larger percentage of your donation goes to saving animals, please make your contribution on our website here. Thanks so much for your generous support.

I have a question that was not answered, who do I ask?

  • Please email all other questions to our Development Director, Adam Wright at [email protected]
