About Lilly’s Sunshine: You could not meet a sweeter girl than Lilly or a more devoted mother than Kathy. Over the past 9 years they have faced more challenges – and have overcome them – than most of us will see in a lifetime. Lilly was born with Cystic Fibrosis, a devastating genetic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system. With this comes ongoing health struggles and daily challenges that impact the whole family. From daily medicine to therapy to a special diet, Lilly’s days are anything but typical. However, she does not let this disease define her, nor did Kathy and her father, Daryn. On December 18, 2015, Daryn was in a fatal car accident. At the time, he had been working at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine teaching and focusing on CF research. With this loss, Kathy and Lilly will now face the world and challenges of CF alone. This means taking on existing and new expenses, and transitioning their life to manage all of Lilly’s needs and those of any household. The grad students of the Sports Ad program at Ohio University join Race for a Reason to honor Daryn and support Kathy and Lilly through this difficult time. Your donations will help alleviate the challenges of the care and medical coverage Lilly needs, as well as help ensure they have the means for her future.
