Remembering a beloved teacher

On October 24, 2013, Mesilla Elementary School lost one of its own to endometrial cancer.   Bernice Florez, born June 8, 1958, taught at Mesilla Elementary for 32 years; a place she considered her home away from home; a special place she held close to her heart.  Bernice left a lasting impression on many of us, including her last group of students at Mesilla Elementary, who are now preparing for middle school.  The PTO would like to generate funds to enact a memorial garden to honor her memory.  Funds will be used specifically to beautify the school courtyard, including its gardens.  Supplies will include potting soil, flowers and/or bushes allowable for display in a school, a garden hose and nozzle, lawn/garden decorations and planters.  We would also like to raise money to buy a plaque to hang in her memory, and to host a ribbon cutting event for Bernice’s family and students.  Any additional funds will be given to the family.  Please help us honor a beloved friend and teacher.
