Many of you have been so generous in supporting my efforts with Habitat for Humanity. Thank you!
For those of you that don't know, I did a week long build in Northern Portugal in the summer of 2017 with my mom. I saw first hand the difference it made to help a family in need. They were a family of five living in a one room shack. I included the picture of one of the family members who is disabled. The first three shots are from the Portugal Habitat build. Habitat for Humanity helped this Portuguese family move into a 3 bedroom house. It was an amazing experience to help this family in need and be part of creating this home for them.
I appreciated the work that Habitat for Humanity is doing so I came back from this Portugal build and started my own club at my high school. We have done work at Habitat ReStore which raises funds for the Habitat organization and are looking to do some local builds this year. Most importantly, our high school club did a week long build in New Smyrna, Florida in the summer of 2018. We worked on completing three houses. I included some pictures of this Florida build. We were lucky enough to get 9 students and 3 adults to help us. My dad did the build with us. Plus, my former Habitat leader, Chuck Peterson, graciously helped us organize and attend this Florida build. It was a great opportunity to help those in our own country who are poor and have been affected by hurricanes.
This summer, I am traveling to Thailand with my uncle Paul and aunt Jen to do more Habitat work. For the first week, we are building a home in a poor village. For the second week, we are building fish ponds for a local school that earns revenue from their fish ponds.

Every three years we research and imagine where we can make a tangible impact into caring for our global family and this good earth. Chiang Mai, Thailand was chosen for these reasons:
The local community is responsive to Global Village teams that will allow our team of 18 to complete building a simple decent home along side our partner family within one week!
During the second week we are able to support a local school with the installation of fish ponds for their nutritional needs.
Third, Chiang Mai is a leader in humane care and support of orphaned, abused & aging elephants where our team can contribute to their care and health.
As part of Habitat for Humanity’s Global Village network, lives are being stabilized & transformed. A vision & strategy is being implemented globally to be have a significant impact on a housing crisis affecting over 20% of our global family. And while we are currently working on building out Tiny House Villages here in the East Bay as part of the local solution its important to extend our care & concern to our broader global community.
We want you to be part of this out reach any way you can. We seek your strong support and will create a communication network that brings you to the build, to the school & to the elephants as best we can. Thailand’s National Housing Authority estimates nearly 8.2 million live in substandard housing.
Poverty is widespread in the rural northeast, far north and far south of the country. Migration from rural areas has placed a strain upon the supply of affordable land. Migrants face high rent for small rooms and often live in overcrowded areas without proper sanitation. Squatter settlements are commonly seen along railway lines or near port and industrial areas.In addition to its traditional homebuilding model, Habitat Thailand uses a progressive building model in which homeowner partners construct a two-room core house with an open space, then add rooms and walls after three years or once a certain amount of the initial mortgage is repaid.
Global Village is Habitat for Humanity’s international volunteer program. Teams travel to over 40 countries to work alongside communities, build housing solutions, and experience local culture. Our goal is to change the lives of the people we serve, as well as the lives of the volunteers.
