Help Not Alone Notes become a Nonprofit!

From Morgan Rondinelli

Not Alone Notes mails free, handwritten notes to others with OCD to remind them they aren't alone, encourage hope, and dispense resources. After two years of mailing notes, we dream of becoming an official nonprofit!

OCD can be an incredibly isolating and misunderstood illness. I know I felt alone when I was diagnosed at age 19, after unknowingly having OCD for as long as I can remember. I began to meet others with mental health experiences through school clubs and an OCD conference, but it wasn't enough. I knew we were missing connecting with hundreds of others with OCD.

This all led to an idea: What if we could mail letters to others with OCD. What if this simple act could make someone feel less alone?

The idea became a link to a Google Form on Morgan's mental health blog, and soon, requests for letters started coming in. Shortly after, Molly joined the team with the offer to hand-decorate all of the notecards. With that, the seed of the idea became a real project.

In the last two years, Not Alone Notes has sent close to 1000 (898 to be exact) handwritten and free letters to individuals with OCD. These have gone both around the country and around the world. Molly and Morgan, who live in different states, have become close friends and built a community. We now have two additional note writers, Steph and Olivia; a website; a growing social media presence; and a sponsor through the small business, HabitAware.

And now, we dream of becoming an official nonprofit. This will help provide credibility, opportunities for grants and tax-deductible donations, the ability to open a bank account, protection from liability, and potentially reduced postage, as well as additional opportunities for growth and more connection within the OCD community. We need funds for aspects like a State Filing Fee, EIN Obtainment, and other associated fees. A huge thank you to a community friend who will be helping with the filing process and saving us literally hundreds in fees as opposed to if we were using a service or lawyer. Any leftover funds will go towards stamps, notecards, and other supplies to continue sending letters. We appreciate any and all donations, or just sharing the word!
