About Me

As a female who has lived & works in Boston for over a decade, I love this city and am excited to help all Boston Women!

More Info

The Little Black Dress Initiative (LBDI) is a fundraising campaign spearheaded by the Junior League of Boston as part of our mission to develop the potential of women in our community. Through it, we aim to bring awareness to the distresses of poverty and violence against women, and the impacts they can have on a woman’s access to resources, her confidence and professional opportunities.

How does it work?

Participants raise funds while wearing one black dress, or other black attire, every day for the week of February 25 to March 1 to prompt conversation and highlight the effect distressful situations can have on a woman’s access to resources, confidence, and opportunities.

Our 2019 Goals

This year, we hope to raise $30,000 to support initiatives in the greater Boston community that are working to end to violence against women. Our reach goal is $50,000 which represents the nearly 50% of women in Massachusetts who have experienced sexual violence other than rape in their life time.

For 2019 we have selected two community partners, Boston Area Rape Crisis Center (BARCC) and Catie’s Closet.

How can you support this important initiative?

·        Donate: to give online, simply select a participant from the donation site (coming soon). You can give donations directly to any participant, or you can mail them to the JL Boston headquarters (117 Newbury Street, Boston MA 02116). Please make sure to note the participant you are supporting on your check for tracking purposes.

·        Become a participant: you don’t have to be a member of JL Boston to participate in LBDI! We welcome anyone who wants to join us. Make sure to attend the Kickoff party (members, please register on our calendar) to receive a LBDI sticker to wear each of the five days.
