I don't really know how it happened, but I wake up every morning to find that I'm about to marry my best friend. It's crazy, because we were nothing more than great friends for quite a while, with no inclination of a budding romance. Then I messed up. I started liking her a little, then liking her a lot, and then thinking about her too much for us to stay friends for long. I found myself praying for nearly two years about the possibility of marrying a friend that had no idea that I liked her, and acutely aware that she would not tolerate being in a relationship with a little boy in an adult body. I prayed that God would transform my lingering immaturities into the makings of a man: dependable, selfless, humble, faithful, loving. I wanted God to make me more like Him, because I knew that this spiritual princess deserved a bonafide prince. It's a good thing that God majors in the miraculous.
Fast forward two more years, and we stand on the precipice of adjoined lives and the beauty (and hardship) of marriage. We recognize how poorly our culture does marriage nowadays, but we've decided to endure each other's lows with humility and selflessness, much like we did in our friendship. We are committing to each other, and not a marriage; till death do us part. We are praying for God to do another miracle as we walk forward: to keep us humble and submissive to each other while life tries to beat the commitment out of us.
