To Whom it May Concern,

My name is Da’Dreion Rashod Murrell and I am currently a junior at Omaha Northwest High Magnet School. I am very interested in attending Berklee School of Music in Boston, Massachusetts for college. I am in love with all kinds of music and performance, and thus have been preparing for a career in music for many years. I have chosen to pursue a career as a music educator and musician in both vocal and instrumental fields. Berklee is my dream college because it explores all realms of the musical experience by emphasizing the fun of music. I truly believe that this college would mold me into the best musician and educator I can be.

Recently I applied for Berklee’s Five Week Summer Program and found out that I was accepted! It is a five week program that runs from July 12-August 15. Students from all around the world participate in this program, and get to experience what it would be like to attend Berklee School of Music as a student. They practically live the college student life by taking classes that explore topics in musicianship, music theory, improvisation, and much more that caters to the individual student’s instrumental needs. Berklee also gives students the opportunity to develop outside of the classroom by encouraging students to interact with their fellow musicians, as well as grow individually.

For my specific field of study during this program, I would be focusing on “Voice”. This program would expand my knowledge of vocal techniques, vocal improvisation, and vocal health.  It would additionally give me the experience of performing as a vocalist, both as a soloist and as part of a group. The exciting part about attending this summer intensive, is that it greatly increases my chances of being accepted into the college when I apply next fall. The expertise and training that I would gain from this program could potentially shape my career as an active musician, and open many doors for the future.

Although this program is a great opportunity, it is also unfortunately very expensive. Due to my financial background, it would be impossible for me to attend this program without your help. The entire tuition for this program is about $8,355 dollars (with everything due by June 1, 2014). What makes up this amount is the $500 tuition deposit (due by May 1, 2014), $300 housing prepayment (due as soon as possible),  $3,075 remaining housing payment, $4,295 remaining tuition, a registration fee of $35, and the comprehensive of $150. After the program tuition, I accounted in round-trip airfare which will be about $600 (more or less). Finally, I am estimating between $200-$300 for emergency and spending money over the five week period. Altogether the total estimate I would need to raise for this once in a lifetime trip is about $9,500. I have applied for Berklee’s five week program scholarship, however, the scholarship is not guaranteed as it is only awarded to select students. I am asking for your help because trying to fund a trip this costly, is simply not within my financial means. I am confident that with your generous contribution, I can achieve my goal to attend Berklee School of Music this summer. I highly appreciate and thank you for taking the time to listen and potentially consider helping me follow my dream. I hope you have a great day!

Sincerely,

Da’Dreion Rashod Murrell         [email protected]
