About The Team

Over the next two weeks, I am challenging all of my friends to help people in Southwest Georgia get screened for cancer like Larry.

Larry Green came to terms with what he though would be his fate. Before learning about Horizons, Larry believed he would eventually die of colorectal cancer.  "My baby brother died from colon cancer, my daddy died from colon cancer...I knew one day, I was going to die from colon cancer." Much like many South Georgians, Larry was uninsured and could not afford the care he needed. However, Larry's future changed forever when he learned of Horizons. Larry was able to receive a colonoscopy during which pre-cancerous polys were removed and now he lives each day unafraid of dying from cancer.

I didn't know that if colon cancer is diagnosed at a localized stage, the survival rate in 91%! Horizons, formerly called the South Georgia Cancer Coalition, provides navigation for patients and helps pay for cancer screenings right here in our community for those uninsured or underinsured. Just think how many lives are being saved by this great organization every year here in South Georgia. Please help me reach my goal of $1,000 by Tuesday, April 30th as Horizons celebrates a Day for Hope by raising $50,000 to continue their great work. Help me help patients like Larry. You can save a life, too!  Donate by clicking the purple DONATE button.

More Info

During the organizations first annual Horizons “Day for Hope,” a day that leverages the collective power of individuals, communities, and organizations to encourage generosity and philanthropic participation, every dollar raised will be used locally in South Georgia communities. For example: A one-time gift of $1,200 will provide mammograms for ten women. In addition to medical resources, Horizons also offers the community ongoing education about conditions such as cancer, obesity, diabetes, tobacco control and more.

Horizons has linked together with other organizations and individuals, making it possible to include all community members in Day for Hope. A day-long challenge campaign is scheduled to air on WALB that will include testimonials from patients, physicians, and community leaders.

The Day for Hope will also include a ribbon cutting and open house at the new office located at 2332 Lake Park Drive. Join us to raise Hope for southwest Georgia.
