Black Arts Matter is a multidisciplinary Black arts festival based in Amiskwaciwâskahikan (edmonton, AB). Born out of the Chinook Series 2017, a two week festival of festivals put on by Workshop West Playwrights’ Theatre, Fringe Theatre Adventures, and Azimuth Theatre, BAM brought communities of all races, abilities and artistic tastes to their feet. Happening right in the heart of Black History Month, Black dancers, poets, musicians, theatre artists, educators and healers have shared their voice and proven the myth that Black artists “aren’t in Edmonton” is false. NASRA is the Festival Director of Black Arts Matter and looks forward to bringing in artists from across Canada as the festival enters its fourth year.
