About Me

I found YR when I was at a low point with myself mentally. I lacked a sense of belonging and had no vision of a future. I attended TEENPOWER in 2017 after a teacher encouraged me to check it out. Anxious and shy, I packed up for my first summer camp not knowing those 5 days would change my life forever. I returned once more before applying to be on TEENPOWER's Youth Staff. I didn't really believe in myself or see myself as a leader, yet I knew I would do anything to have a chance at impacting others the way I had been by the amazing people I found in YR. I served on Youth Staff from sophomore to senior year and have since moved up to College Staff, where I continue to serve each summer. I have the honor of seeing my younger brother Mario attend TP now. After falling in love with TEENPOWER, I went on to join Teen Advisory Council in the Development Committee where I went from member to Development Co-chair on Exec by the end of my senior year. My involvement with YR sparked my love for community service and played a huge role in finding my dream career: social work. I am now a student at Indiana University where I study Social Work and Youth Development in which I plan to use to find a career that allows me to empower all youth, particularly those who aren't always highlighted in society. I have had the amazing opportunity these past few months to serve as Youth Resources' Outreach Intern where my passion for YR has driven me to spread it further in Evansville's community.

As the YR programs and number of alumni continue to grow, so does the reputation of Youth Resources. YR's alumni are out doing great things and continue to support the mission of YR through volunteering, mentoring and more.

What are alumni saying about the impact of Youth Resources in their lives?

“My memories from Youth Resources remind me that there are giving and selfless people out there serving in a wide variety of capacities. Youth Resources has provided a kinship for those of us who feel they can make a difference.”

“Honestly, Youth Resources has shaped me into the person that I am today. Their programs and staff have instilled confidence, courage, and kindness in me. Without them, I would have not had the great chances to do things that I would otherwise have had no knowledge that they even existed. YR has given me a chance to discover my true passions in life.”

“YR helped me learn the leadership skills and altruism necessary to change the world for the better. It also taught me how to find other young people who are interested in service and positive activities, something I am sure to use in college.”

YR Day is a 24-hour online party and fundraising event for YR and the people who make YR possible (that’s you). Whether you’re a student, alumni, parent, volunteer or just a fan with a special place in your heart for YR - this celebration is for you!

YR’s mission is to inspire and develop our community of youth to a life dedicated to leadership, service, and civic engagement. Since 1987 we’ve worked with over 149,850 students and funded more than 3,310 service projects in 6 counties. Our alumni give, serve, and lead in education, healthcare, business, law, nonprofits, tech and more, using the skills they learned through YR’s programs.

Last year our students served over 8,000 hours with more than 100 local organizations, and they planned 63 service projects with their peers. They opened their hearts to the needs in our community and put their hands to work making a difference.
