After struggling for an equaliser, Wolfsburg were caught off guard when Jadon Sancho made an instant counter attack, rounding one goalkeeper and smashing home an excellent cross from the right for an emphatic winner.

Wolfsburg had their best chance to stage an unlikely comeback late in the second half, when Edmond Tapsoba struck a left footed shot against the post with his left-foot shot from outside the area. Unfortunately for them though, outstanding goalkeeping from Xaver Schlager prevented this chance from coming true.
