Update #3

Two more donations have come in! Thank you so much for your generosity! Please, keep sharing with your family and friends! We still have a long way to go but we can do it! These children need us! Lets show them we care!

About The Team

Stories for Superheroes was founded by three friends, all from different parts of the country, all who have been affected in some way by childhood cancer, all who had the ability to make a difference - Bethany Cooper, former elementary teacher from Ellsworth, MI, Mindy Pearson, science teacher from northwest Indiana, and Heather Marlow, home care nurse from Crown Point, IN. We each began our career with Usborne Books & More in 2020, admidst the uncertainty of a pandemic, all with children of our own, not knowing what the future of their education might look like. We were blessed with the ability to provide our children with a full library of books to supplement their education and provide long-lasting memories and habits that will serve them a lifetime.

We have each known a child that has been diagnosed with pediatric cancer, whether it was a friend or family member. These children are truly superheroes and have a sense of courage, bravery, and integrity far beyond their years. It was this commonality and a deep love for literacy, children and healing at our core, that this mission was born.

More Info

Even superheroes need help sometimes ...

My colleagues and I at Usborne Books & More are partnering with Cancer Kids First to provide brand new, beautifully illustrated, research-based books to pediatric cancer patients all over the country. It is proven that significant learning disabilities can develop in these children because of the high doses of anthracyclines, methotrexate, cytrabine, cranial irradiation, diagnoses of sarcoma or central nervous system tumors, and ongoing physical ill health associated with the treatments that are meant to keep them alive. Not to mention, the tax on their mental health from dealing with reduced energy levels, prolonged school absences, and not being able to just be a normal kid. Cancer Kids First aims to help pediatric cancer patients experience a more normal childhood by providing books, toys care packages, etc while also inspiring them to keep fighting and spark some joy in their lives.

Will you help us in this mission? There are 954 children in four hospitals across the country that could use our help. These children are being treated at Helen Devos Children's Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan, C.S. Mott Children's Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Children's National Hospital in Washington D.C., and University of Maryland Children's Hospital.

Please consider donating to these children. Even superheroes need help sometimes. That being said, Usborne Books & More is going to donate an extra 50% of every dollar raised! In order to provide each and every one of these children with three books (they deserve three new books, don't they?), we are looking to raise $35,000. With your help we can accomplish this mission.

"Books don't just change lives, they change the world. How great to be the person that brings about that change." - Kira Lynn
