About Me

Born and raised in the Chicago suburb of Aurora, I moved to Denver in the summer of 2011 to be apart of the Habitat for Humanity of Metro Denver organization as an AmeriCorps member. The Global Village program is how I initially got involved with Habitat. It was in the summer of 2011 while on a GV trip in Malawi that I heard about the amazing Americorps program in Denver. I applied immediately when I returned home from the trip, and have been working for Habitat for the past year and 8 months! The GV trip to Malawi was an incredible experience so I decided to go on another GV trip in 2012 to Bolivia. Before that trip I went through GV team leader training so I would be able to provide other people the opportunity to experience all of the amazing aspects that a Global Village trip has to offer.

More Info

We are putting together a group of 12 people who have all served their community as an AmeriCorps member with Habitat for Humanity.  We have all participated in Habitat's mission here in the United States and are looking to extend our service to another country by working together to build homes in Costa Rica.

Many of us will be ending our year-long, AmeriCorps term of service at the end of July and traveling to Buenos Aires, Costa Rica to build during the first week of August.  This trip is an exciting opportunity for us to help the estimated 700,000 people living in poverty in Costa Rica, as well as strengthen the "AmeriCorps bond" between us that often results in life-long relationships.  The primary purpose for this trip is to spread Habitat's mission of eliminating poverty housing and homelessness around the world.

Over 40% of the funds raised by our group will be going directly to the Habitat affiliate in Costa Rica to build more homes as well as the Global Village department of Habitat for Humanity International to help support the GV program all over the world.  We would like to encourage you to take part in this process with us by sharing our story with people in your community and encouraging them to spread the word about the amazing work taking place all over the world as part of Habitat for Humanity's Global Village program.

If you would like any additional information please email the trip leaders at [email protected]

Global Village is Habitat for Humanity’s international volunteer program. Teams travel to over 40 countries to work alongside communities, build housing solutions, and experience local culture. Our goal is to change the lives of the people we serve, as well as the lives of the volunteers.

About Habitat for Humanity International

Driven by the vision that everyone needs a decent place to live, Habitat for Humanity began in 1976 as a grassroots effort on a community farm in southern Georgia. The housing organization has since grown to become a leading global nonprofit working in more than 1,300 communities throughout the U.S. and in more than 70 countries. Families and individuals in need of a hand up partner with Habitat for Humanity to build or improve a place they can call home. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. Through financial support, volunteering or adding a voice to support affordable housing, everyone can help families achieve the strength, stability and self-reliance they need to build better lives for themselves. Through shelter, we empower. To learn more, visit habitat.org.
