McKay Roozen fundraising for Lawu Elementary, Biji Elementary and Lawu Middle School Eyeglasses Project

From McKay Roozen

My students already face plenty of challenges in their rural community. They don't need anymore obstacles than those already in front of them. They need to see to succeed.

The Challenge

Uncorrected vision remains a critical challenge for students in much of the world.  Nearly 18% of middle school students and 10% of elementary school students in the areas we serve suffer from previously undiagnosed vision problems.  Education In Sight works to bridge the gap between these students and the proper eye care and glasses they need to succeed in the classroom. With your help, we can give these students the gift of sight and enable them to live up to their fullest potential.

About Education in Sight

Education in Sight strives to improve education in the U.S. and China through conducting eye examinations and providing free eyeglasses to under-privileged students in U.S. cities and low-income Chinese towns. We partner with local eye clinics to deliver eye examinations at our partners schools, and work with doctors and teachers to deliver the glasses directly to the students at their schools. We also work to educate students, parents, and teachers about the benefits of glasses, and the necessity of proper eye care. The glasses provided by Education In Sight result in students' heightened ability to follow and participate in class and as a result, to achieve higher in the classroom.

Our Third Year

Education In Sight began operations in China's rural Yunnan Province less than two years ago in 2012.  Over the past two years we've examined 9,944 students and provided 1,627 pairs of glasses to students in need.  This year we will continue to serve our partner schools and expand to two new counties.  This year will also mark the start of Education In Sight's Pilot Program in low-income communities in the U.S.
