Matt Zarzecki fundraising for Anchorage, Alaska - Nuss Team

About Me

In July I'm headed to Alaska with Habitat for Humanity.

Tragically seems like most of the time my hands are usually touching keys on my computer or swiping the screen of my iPhone. That’s really stupid, so I thought I’d put them to better use. Hammer some nails, scrape some paint, however I can help.

It’s all too easy to get wrapped up in our own worlds and it’s often easy to forget how important it is to reach out and lend a hand.

Any help is amazingly appreciated. Thank you. Thank you.

Matt

About Alaska

Alaska is America’s final frontier. The state’s tall peaks, massive glaciers and more than 300 million acres of wilderness make it an ideal place for those with the pioneer spirit. Yet for the more than 30,000 people living in substandard housing in Anchorage, Alaska’s largest city, life can be anything but ideal. These families live in over-crowded, under-insulated trailers, apartments, or houses, often without plumbing in the winter, because the high cost of housing makes it difficult for them to afford anything better.

Habitat for Humanity Anchorage has been actively building homes since 1991, working with people who live in substandard conditions throughout the city. To date, Habitat Anchorage has built or renovated more than 70 homes, housing 389 people, including 252 children. Habitat Anchorage welcomes Global Village teams who come to help build safe, decent and affordable homes with similar families in need.

Global Village is Habitat for Humanity’s international volunteer program. Teams travel to over 40 countries to work alongside communities, build housing solutions, and experience local culture. Our goal is to change the lives of the people we serve, as well as the lives of the volunteers.

About Habitat for Humanity International

Driven by the vision that everyone needs a decent place to live, Habitat for Humanity began in 1976 as a grassroots effort on a community farm in southern Georgia. The housing organization has since grown to become a leading global nonprofit working in more than 1,300 communities throughout the U.S. and in more than 70 countries. Families and individuals in need of a hand up partner with Habitat for Humanity to build or improve a place they can call home. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. Through financial support, volunteering or adding a voice to support affordable housing, everyone can help families achieve the strength, stability and self-reliance they need to build better lives for themselves. Through shelter, we empower. To learn more, visit habitat.org.
