I'm fundraising for 2 reasons: offset the cost of participation, bring attention to this very worthy cause; putting God's words, into action.

About Me

I've worked on 2 previous Carter builds: 2017 in Memphis, 2019 in South Bend. Both experiences left me in awe of the volunteers that I worked with in bringing a home, to those struggling to find affordable housing. Each build leaves me feeling more and more blessed for having been able to participate. Sweating and praying and eating and smashing fingers, cutting boards, putting up drywall all side by side with an owner that has never known a place they could call their own, is an amazing feeling. Watching a homeowner cry when the numbers on their house go up or when the mailbox is placed on it's stand is overwhelming because you just know, they have never had a permanent address or mailbox before. Things I take so much for granted; simple things they have always longed for. I believe I have so much to be grateful for in my life: people to love, people that love me, good health for the most part, a home, security, someone in my life that "always has my back," friends that can be counted on, a dining room table where friends gather. So, so much to be grateful for that I feel compelled to make every effort I can, to bring those things to others.

About the 2019 Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project - Nashville, Tennessee

After more than 35 years, the donation of time and hands-on labor by former U.S. President Jimmy Carter and his wife, Rosalynn, continues to inspire and multiply the influence of Habitat for Humanity in North America and around the world. Their participation in Habitat’s building projects raises awareness of the critical need for affordable housing – the heart of Habitat for Humanity’s mission.

Habitat for Humanity’s Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project has drawn more than 103,000 enthusiastic volunteers from all walks of life since 1984. These volunteers have built, renovated and repaired 4,331 homes in 14 countries during the previous 35 projects to improve access to affordable housing. The 2019 Carter Work Project continues the tradition and will be hosted by Habitat for Humanity of Greater Nashville, where the project will serve 58 Nashville families. Future homeowners will work alongside President and Mrs. Carter and hundreds of other volunteers to build 20 new single-family homes during the Carter Work Project week. Twelve other new single-family homes and 26 new townhomes will be constructed by 2021 with the support of funds raised for the project.

Your support can help make homeownership a reality for those in need of decent shelter.

About Habitat for Humanity

Driven by the vision that everyone needs a decent place to live, Habitat for Humanity began in 1976 as a grassroots effort on a community farm in southern Georgia. The Christian housing organization has since grown to become a leading global nonprofit working in local communities across all 50 states in the U.S. and in more than 70 countries. Families and individuals in need of a hand up partner with Habitat for Humanity to build or improve a place they can call home. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. Through financial support, volunteering or adding a voice to support affordable housing, everyone can help families achieve the strength, stability and self-reliance they need to build better lives for themselves. Through shelter, we empower. To learn more, visit habitat.org.
