215 For Gloria

Thanks to everybody's support we have already exceeded the initial goal of $2,150 in just 3 days! We have increased the goal to $4,300. That equates to $20 per mile. By raising more money we will not only help the Strom family, but also contribute to more funding for research that will help doctors understand and find a cure for the brain disease that took Gloria's life. 215 for Gloria

I will be racing a total of 215 miles throughout my triathlon/biking events this year. My goal is to raise $20 for every mile I race. The entire season will be dedicated to Gloria Strom. Half of the proceeds will go towards cancer research at the Masonic Cancer Center in Gloria's name, and the other half will be used to help with medical costs for Gloria's family.

Donations of $25 or more will be entered into one of two raffles to win a pair of Valleyfair tickets thanks to Anna Crowley. If you donate at least $50 you will be entered into a raffle to win 2 Minnesota Wild tickets. If you donate $100 or more you will be entered into a raffle to win 2 Minnesota Wild tickets, along with a behind the scenes tour. If somebody donates $500 I will run an entire triathlon in a Speedo. Megan will be throwing up while taking the photo evidence.

Why I am racing

Gloria Strom was diagnosed with a grade 4 gioblastoma multiforme early February 2011 after suffering a seizure at work January of 2011. This was a horrible diagnosis and most people with this diagnosis live only about three to six months.

After a few tests and an MRI, they discovered a tumor and removed it. After finding out it was cancerous she underwent six weeks of radiation and months of a chemo pill. The tumor returned in the same place and size August 2011. Another surgery removed it and she kept taking the same chemo pill. Gloria had many good months and clean MRIs, but another tumor returned April 2012. She had another surgery that removed the tumor, but brought many other side effects. She lost majority of her ability to speak, gained a blood clot and over the summer of 2012 had three infections, each requiring it's own surgery and month of healing. Another tumor arose, same place and size, September of 2012. Gloria then tried a new treatment, Avastin, which is similar to traditional chemotherapy, but had no side effects. The only problem is it works for so long and then stops. Gloria passed away peacefully on March 20th, at 3:08 am.

Gloria had an amazing spirit, faith and outlook on life. She fought this head on and enjoyed each and every day. This is what kept her going so long. Your donation and support will help Gloria's husband Bob, daughter Meredith, and son-in-law Jesse during this extremely tough time.

I have had the privilege of meeting the Strom family through my wife Megan. They are the nicest and most genuine family I have ever met. Gloria lit the room with her infectious smile. Bob is the best and most supportive first base softball coach you can find. Whenever I speak with Meredith I naturally feel happier thanks to her positive personality and great sense of humor. Jesse is a very loyal and supportive person. He's great to be around because of his spontaneous and easy going personality.
