About Me

Hello community members! My name is Emi and I am one of eight going to Honduras over my spring break to work with local masons building a house through Habitat. Last year I was a rider on the North Carolina to San Diego route with Bike & Build where I biked over 3,500 miles, raised over $4,500 and raised awareness about the affordable housing cause in nine states. Through my university's Habitat for Humanity chapter I have the opportunity to take what I have learned locally to a more global community. With your help my team and I can continue a 19-year tradition of building in Honduras. Thank you so much for your support! Happy building!

More Info

Honduras is one of the poorest and least developed countries in Latin America, and nearly two-thirds of Hondurans live in poverty. Before 1998, Honduras had shown moderate economic growth as a result of government reforms. But in that year Hurricane Mitch inflicted $3 billion in damage on the country, and Honduras’ economy is still recovering. The agriculture sector, responsible for most exports, was hurt the most.Since its founding in 1988, Habitat for Humanity Honduras has built more than 10,000 houses, providing simple, decent and affordable shelter for more than 35,000 Hondurans in need of earthquake-resistant houses made with concrete floors, block walls and corrugated zinc roofs.

Global Village is Habitat for Humanity’s international volunteer program. Teams travel to over 40 countries to work alongside communities, build housing solutions, and experience local culture. Our goal is to change the lives of the people we serve, as well as the lives of the volunteers.

About Habitat for Humanity International

Driven by the vision that everyone needs a decent place to live, Habitat for Humanity began in 1976 as a grassroots effort on a community farm in southern Georgia. The housing organization has since grown to become a leading global nonprofit working in more than 1,300 communities throughout the U.S. and in more than 70 countries. Families and individuals in need of a hand up partner with Habitat for Humanity to build or improve a place they can call home. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. Through financial support, volunteering or adding a voice to support affordable housing, everyone can help families achieve the strength, stability and self-reliance they need to build better lives for themselves. Through shelter, we empower. To learn more, visit habitat.org.
