Please consider donating to help a family of five, who was recently evacuated out of Afghanistan. Over the past month, they had to leave the one country, life, and home they had ever known. They packed their lives in three backpacks, and need our support to start over.
Just like so many families in Afghanistan, Naeem’s was faced with no choice when the Taliban took over the country. Having worked for the Romanian government, Naeem was under direct threat of retaliation.
With his wife and three children – including a newborn, they battled for days and nights in the chaos of the airport. They were 200 m away when the bomb took off, killing hundreds of civilians. But they could not give up. Thanks to the support of the Romanian government , they finally made i out of Afghanistan.
Today, their future is both hopeful and daunting. The family is part of the lucky ones: the ones who survived, the ones who left, and the ones who were granted a legal way out – to Romania. They are so grateful for it.
But they have to rebuild a home in a country they do not know, with no relatives to support them, and in a language they have yet to learn. The modest life they lived in Kabul is gone, and there are no savings to rely on.
We have known Naeem and his family for years. Smart, resourceful, and hardworking, Naeem helped so many foreigners navigate the challenging city of Kabul. We always trusted him. This last month, his family taught us a lesson, one of resilience and determination.
We estimate that the initial objective of 25,000 USD will allow them to cover most of the necessary expenditures for the next 9 months. It should also give them a financial cushion as they wait for the right to work.
