Update #1

Our special guy, Cody, came by for a visit yesterday, and he sure is looking good!

Cody's recovery is going very well, and though he still has a long road to a full recovery ahead of him, his happy and loving personality has really shone through following his surgery! And boy, was he super excited to hear that in just a week's time we've raised One Thousand Fifty Dollars ($1,050.00) for his Surgery and Rehabilitation Fund!

Thank you to everyone who has already donated, your generosity is greatly appreciated!

If you'd like to donate, why wait? Whether it’s $1 or $5, $15 or $25 (or more!) every dollar raised through this fund will go directly to covering the cost of Cody's surgery, his rehabilitation, and his care, until we are able to place him in a home that will give this special dog the love and attention he so deserves!

Thank you!

Today, PALS is launching a fundraising campaign on Fundly.com, to help raise money to cover the expenses of surgery, and rehabilitation, for Cody!

On February 29, 2016, Cody was struck by a vehicle near Hutchins and Century in Lodi, California. The driver of the vehicle that struck Cody did not stop, and Cody was left lying in the street, badly injured, and in a tremendous amount of pain. Thankfully, someone was watching over Cody that night, and a Good Samaritan waited by his side until help arrived.

Cody was immediately transported to an emergency veterinary clinic for evaluation and treatment. In addition to abrasions to his face, Cody had suffered a severely fractured left leg.

Through our close work with the Lodi Animal Shelter, PALS became aware of Cody’s plight. When we first met Cody in the shelter he was withdrawn, scared, and in a lot of pain. Even short trips to the dog yard for fresh air exhausted Cody. We knew we needed to act fast! So PALS transferred Cody to our rescue to ensure that he would receive the medical care that he required. We consulted with an orthopedic surgery specialist, and scheduled his surgery for the next day.

We’re happy to share that Cody’s surgery was a success, and he is now recovering in one of our loving foster homes! But, Cody still has a long road to a full recovery ahead of him. He’ll need 8 weeks of recovery time, with minimal activity, in order for his bone to heal. He’ll then need rehabilitation to make sure he has full use of surgically repaired leg. He’ll need all of our love and support. And you can help!

So many of the animals that come through the city shelter have been dumped, abandoned, neglected, and forgotten, never to be reunited with the people they placed their trust in. They are cold, hungry, afraid, and left to fend for themselves. Being lost or abandoned is a traumatic enough event for any animal, suffering through a debilitating injury during that time is simply unfathomable. And yet, despite the hardships that he’s faced, Cody is starting to come out of his shell. Though he was in a considerable amount of pain, Cody began to respond to the love, attention, and care he was receiving from our volunteers, and now his foster family, and his sweet and loving personality became readily apparent to all that met him, and he now greets new visitors with a wag of the tail and a smile! We have no doubt that when he’s fully recovered, he will make an amazing family dog!

If you’d like to help PALS help Cody on his road to recovery, and finding a second chance at a forever home, you can, by donating to Cody’s Surgery and Rehabilitation Fund. Whether it’s $1 or $5, $15 or $25 (or more!) every dollar raised through this fund will go directly to covering the cost of Cody’s surgery, his rehabilitation, and his care, until we are able to place him in a home that will give this special dog the love and attention he so deserves!
