So many have surprised me with their kind hearted generosity! Many thanks to you wonderful friends and colleagues.

I'm almost reaching my goal but I only have a week left. If you have been considering making a contribution, now is the time :)

About Me

After a few years of deliberation, I've finally decided to do a build abroad.  I’ve been fortunate to always have a roof over my head, a house that I could call ‘home’, and a healthy mind and body.  I believe this is my time to give back.

There were many other destinations I could choose from, but Indonesia is close to my heart. When my family immigrated to the states we crossed paths with many immigrant Indonesian families who were in the same boat as us (pun not intended…hah). I’ve learned about their culture, their food and their language and developed an affinity towards this country and their people. I never imagined being able to visit some day and even more, to be able to help improve their housing conditions. I’ve put a lot of thought into this trip as it will be a challenging experience for me on many different levels. But that’s why I feel compelled to do this - to push my own boundaries, to learn about a different construction method, to meet the locals and help make a difference, and to hopefully walk away with a better understanding of life in another part of the world.

More Info

About 17 percent of the population in Indonesia lives below the poverty line, making less than $1.50 a day, and many more people are classified as “near poor,” vulnerable to even minor changes in their fortunes. Increasingly, poverty is concentrated among rural households that have less access to adequate water and sanitation facilities.Located in the Pacific Ring of Fire, a region of seismic and volcanic activity, Indonesia is frequently affected by earthquakes, tsunamis and volcanic eruptions.

Habitat for Humanity Indonesia, founded in 1997, uses “Building in Stages” and “Save & Build” concepts. The former enables homeowners to start by building a basic core house that can be extended later depending on the family’s means. The Save & Build housing microfinance model enables homeowner partners to benefit from a savings program established by an entire community.

We invite you to join our Global Village team in partnering with Indonesian families in need to help build safe, affordable, decent homes. Working together, we can create positive change. Thank you for becoming a part of the Global Village experience!

Global Village is Habitat for Humanity’s international volunteer program. Teams travel to over 40 countries to work alongside communities, build housing solutions, and experience local culture. Our goal is to change the lives of the people we serve, as well as the lives of the volunteers.

About Habitat for Humanity International

Driven by the vision that everyone needs a decent place to live, Habitat for Humanity began in 1976 as a grassroots effort on a community farm in southern Georgia. The housing organization has since grown to become a leading global nonprofit working in more than 1,300 communities throughout the U.S. and in more than 70 countries. Families and individuals in need of a hand up partner with Habitat for Humanity to build or improve a place they can call home. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. Through financial support, volunteering or adding a voice to support affordable housing, everyone can help families achieve the strength, stability and self-reliance they need to build better lives for themselves. Through shelter, we empower. To learn more, visit habitat.org.
