From Andy Scott

We're raising funds to build a Habitat house for a needy family in Costa Rica. A group of us are going down in June at our own expense. Can you help us raise the building funds?

About Me

Habitat of Lehigh Valley is 25 years old this year and we're about to dedicate our 100th home. This build in Costa Rica will be our first internationally. I've been actively engaged with Habitat for the last five years and I'm currently the Board Chairman of the Lehigh Valley affiliate. I know first hand that the Habitat model is an effective way to help people in a tangible and lasting way. We like to say we give people a hand up, not a hand out. All Habitat families are required to physically help build their homes and then they repay the cost over a number of years. All of the money we raise for this build will go to building costs in Costa Rica. We're all paying our own travel expenses. I know you all have many ways to share your good fortune. I hope you'll consider making a donation to this worthy endeavor.

More Info

Our team is thirteen people strong, made up of volunteers who believe in the mission of Habitat for Humanity: that everyone deserves to have decent, safe housing.

An estimated 700,000 people in Costa Rica live in poverty and more than 222,000 live in extreme poverty.

Habitat for Humanity began operations in Costa Rica in 1988, building 50 houses in its first three years. Today, more than 1,000 homes have been built with the support of government, international churches, local businesses and Habitat affiliates.

Beyond building houses, Habitat Costa Rica focuses on ways to reach families that have even fewer resources through initiatives such as “progressive” housing, home rehabilitations, technical support, financial education, and microenterprise for female heads of household.

We invite you to join our Global Village team in partnering with families in need to help build safe, affordable, decent homes. Working together, we can create positive change. Thank you for becoming a part of the Global Village experience!

Global Village is Habitat for Humanity’s international volunteer program. Teams travel to over 40 countries to work alongside communities, build housing solutions, and experience local culture. Our goal is to change the lives of the people we serve, as well as the lives of the volunteers.

About Habitat for Humanity International

Driven by the vision that everyone needs a decent place to live, Habitat for Humanity began in 1976 as a grassroots effort on a community farm in southern Georgia. The housing organization has since grown to become a leading global nonprofit working in more than 1,300 communities throughout the U.S. and in more than 70 countries. Families and individuals in need of a hand up partner with Habitat for Humanity to build or improve a place they can call home. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. Through financial support, volunteering or adding a voice to support affordable housing, everyone can help families achieve the strength, stability and self-reliance they need to build better lives for themselves. Through shelter, we empower. To learn more, visit habitat.org.
