Highlands County, Florida, saw great devastation after Hurricane Irma ripped through the county on September 9, 2017.  Huge trees were uprooted, roofs were ripped off, and homes were completely destroyed.  The county’s damage assessment immediately following the storm reported over 13,000 damaged homes, 144 being completely uninhabitable, and total damages estimated to cost over $360 million.

Highlands County Habitat for Humanity has a goal of building 40 new homes in the Mason’s Ridge subdivision over the next four years for families displaced by Hurricane Irma.  The homes vary from 2-4 bedrooms in size and are designed and built to meet Florida Green Build requirements for energy efficient affordable housing.  Two homes are now complete, and we anticipate plenty of opportunities our team to be involved in various aspects of new construction while interacting with Habitat families and construction staff.  No special skills are required!  Habitat does a great job of training volunteers and demonstrating how to complete the tasks scheduled for each day!

We appreciate your donations and prayers for our team!

About Habitat for Humanity International

Driven by the vision that everyone needs a decent place to live, Habitat for Humanity began in 1976 as a grassroots effort on a community farm in southern Georgia. The housing organization has since grown to become a leading global nonprofit working in more than 1,300 communities throughout the U.S. and in more than 70 countries. Families and individuals in need of a hand up partner with Habitat for Humanity to build or improve a place they can call home.
