Supplies for medical brigade to Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire

Supplies for medical brigade to Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire

From Brian Barney

I'm running my first marathon this fall to raise money for supplies for a medical missions trip to Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. My goal time for the race is 3 hours and 15 minutes, so I'm asking 1,000 people to donate $3.15!

I've completed my last long run in preparation for the U.S. Air Force Marathon on September 16th! I'm excited for the race but I'm even more excited for all of the money that's being raised for a worthy cause.

I'll be taking donations until October 23rd, so there is still plenty of time to give if you'd like to. Please visit my fundly page to see what giving levels are available. I'm also taking used glasses (both prescription and readers) as donations, so please direct message me if you'd like to send me glasses. Please feel free to share this message so that as many people as possible can participate in giving to the people of Abidjan!

More Info

Hi, my name is Brian Barney and I'll be running my first marathon on September 16th at the U.S. Air Force Marathon in Dayton, OH. As a runner and former collegiate athlete, I've always felt that running gave me a sense of joy and purpose. Now that my competitive running days are over, I have a new purpose to focus on - using my passion and talent for running to help those in need.

Currently, one of the needs that I'm working to meet is to provide healthcare and medical supplies to a community in need in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire in West Africa. My church, The Lexington Church in Lexington, Kentucky, raises money every year for our special missions fund to provide support to our sister churches in the Ivory Coast. Last year, Sean and Mindi Kirklin (the couple who leads our church) raised extra money for prescription medicines and other supplies so that they could provide medical treatment to those in need in Abidjan. The medical brigade was a huge success last year as doctors, optometrists, and dentists from within the Abidjan church treated over 1,000 people from the church and community.

This year, the second annual medical brigade will take place, and hopefully even more people will be able to receive treatment. All of the money raised on this page will go directly towards medical supplies for the event. More specifically, the money raised in the #activeforabidjan campaign will be used to purchase eyeglasses, as there is a major need for corrective eyewear in the Abidjan community. I appreciate any donations that you are able to give and ask that you would share this page on your own social media handles. Thanks and God bless!
